Information for Researchers

Please note that PIPER is only available to faculty within the Psychology Department at TCNJ. Our participant pool is not large enough to accommodate requests from faculty in other departments.

Faculty researchers must fully comply with the PIPER Policy document. Please familiarize yourself with this document before attempting to create at study in PIPER. Please see the relevant sections of the Experimenter Manual for help dealing with creating an experiment, managing your student research assistants, assigning credit or applying strikes, and viewing student evaluations of your studies.

Additionally, faculty members should be aware of the following concerns:

  1. All faculty must contribute an article and associated question set to both the Alternative Assignment and Compulsory Assignment pools before the start of the semester. The PIPER coordinator will notify faculty if they need to contribute or replace a used alternative assignment. Faculty are also responsible for evaluating student responses to their Alternative and Compulsory Assignments in a timely fashion as directed by the PIPER Coordinator. Suspended because the system is extra credit.
  2. When creating studies in SONA, be sure to enter all information correctly in every field.
  3. The faculty sponsor should always be listed in the contact box when creating a study for student participants, even if a student is the primary contact person. Participants and the PIPER Coordinator must be able to identify the faculty member who is responsible for a study in the event of difficulties because students are not always responsive to questions or concerns.
